Run Windows 8 Metro Apps on Netbook (How To)

Run Windows Metro Apps in Notebooks

One of the system requirement of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 is, the screen resolution must be at least 1024x768. This means that netbooks are not suitable to run Windows 8.

Sometimes, people that are using a netbook will feel that Microsoft is very bad. But, as a software designer, designing this type of apps must have a range of screen resolution.

Below is the solution. This method was tested on Lenovo S10-3c Notebook, with a maximum screen resolution of 1024x600, running Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (Intel GMA for short) as the driver software.

Step 1: Start Registry Editor.
a) Registry Editor is a software preinstalled with Windows     for some advanced user to view and edit registry. Don’t    simply edit or delete the registry.
b) Hold Windows key and press R and you’ll see a small       window appears.
c) Type “regedit.exe” (without quotes) and click Run.

Step 2: Search.
a) Go to Edit > Find.
b) In the text box, type “Display1_DownScalingSupported”     (without quotes).
c) Click Find.

Step 3: Edit registry value.

   a)  The registry with name “Display1_DownScalingSupported” will be selected.

    a)  Right click the registry and select Modify in the menu.
    b) A dialog box will appear and replace the “0” with “1” (without quotes).
    c)  CheckDecimal” and close everything.

Step 4: Restart PC.
   a)  Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
   b) After restart, you will find that the screen resolution is now higher.
   c)  Try with a Metro Apps. It will start running normally now.

This method can apply on computers with Intel Graphics only. But your eye will become “flatten” after looking at the screen for a few minutes.

Well done, you have finish the whole lesson and that’s all from me, thank you.

*Precautions:
     i. Don’t delete any registry files or the computer will crash.
ii.Read the instructions carefully and I’ll not responsible for any problem      on your computer after   using my solution.
